  • How long does it take to see results or improvements?
Every person is unique and will have their own needs and desired objectives in relation to their individual situation. Therefore, the time it takes to see results will vary. However, due to the fact that Steve works from a person-centred and integrative approach, clients could expect to see results as early as their initial session. Steve also operates from a brief therapy model which aims to help clients with their immediate concerns rather than focus on comprehensive assessments and lengthy analysis.
  • Is my information kept confidential?
Everything shared during sessions will be treated as highly confidential. Steve may discuss some matters with his supervisor however, this will be for training and coaching purposes and to ensure you are provided with the best support. Apart from this there are only a few circumstances where breaking confidentiality may be required, these are: If the counsellor believes you’re at risk of seriously harming yourself or someone else. If a court of law has requested your counselling records. If other parties/agencies have requested your information and you have provided your written consent. In any of the above circumstances, you will be notified and only the relevant information will be disclosed.
  • What can I expect from my first session?
Firstly, your counsellors presence should help put you at ease (Therapy is a place to be heard, not judged). Secondly, prior to your first session you will receive a Welcome letter, Intake form and a Counselling contract. These forms helps to get to know you better and explain mutual obligations and processes. If you have any questions at this point, feel free to reach out and let Steve know. He's happy to help. Thirdly, the general flow of a session can vary greatly depending on a number of factors however, a first session will generally flow something like this: * Counsellor introduction, an invitation to ask questions and discuss the process and to get comfortable. * Your counsellor will then proceed by asking questions to get to know you and your situation better, your reasons for seeking counselling, and to discuss/define any goals you may have. Depending on time, your therapist may introduce some therapeutic concepts and interventions and develop a plan with you for future sessions. Of course every client is different so our main aim is to come along side you and support you on your journey. We'll take as much or as little time as you need to help you along the way.
